Residence

Berrington Street

Overview & Location

Berrington Street is located in the heart of Hereford city centre and provides supported accommodation for care-experienced young people aged 16–24.

Young people usually move here when they are ready to live more independently and require less support.

The accommodation sits above commercial shops, with easy access to transport, services, and city facilities.

Accommodation Layout

Berrington Street contains six one-bedroom flats, all on the first floor.

Three flats are accessed through a shared front door on Berrington Street.
The fourth flat is accessed via a separate door at the rear, through the car park.

You’ll have a key fob to access the building and your own flat. Only you and staff have access.

Inside each flat, everything you need is provided:

Double bedroom
Private bathroom
Fully furnished living space
Kitchen with induction hob, sink/drainer, fridge freezer
Washing machine
Small dining table and chairs
Couch, coffee table
Wall-mounted TV

All flats are decorated and furnished to a high standard, offering a comfortable and independent living environment.

Communal & Shared Spaces

Although the flats are self-contained, Berrington Street offers shared spaces for meeting with support workers and other professionals, including:

Shared kitchen
Shared shower room
Private meeting rooms
A staff office on site during office hours

Flats and shared spaces are located above shops, with secure front and rear access points depending on which flat you live in.

In the car park
At both external entrances

In one of the meeting rooms

The CCTV system records audio and video and is used for the safety of all young people. During your move-in, staff will show you where cameras are placed.

You can request the CCTV Policy at any time to learn about data storage and usage.

Support, Staffing & Independence

Support at Berrington Street continues in a similar way to The Heart of Oak, with key differences:

Staff are not onsite 24/7 Support is mainly provided during daytime, Monday–Friday

Your support worker will change when you move here

Your support worker will help you prepare for moving on to your own accommodation, reviewing your progress and independence skills regularly.

If you need urgent help outside office hours, you can still contact the 24/7 on-call service by phone or text.

Details are in the What to Do if You Need Urgent Help information page.

With this move, young people are expected to take on more responsibility, including:

Managing time
Attending support sessions
Making safe choices
Maintaining independence skills

Support levels are agreed in your Moving In Meeting and will generally be lower than at The Heart of Oak, reflecting your increased independence.

All staff are DBS-checked, trained, supervised regularly, and experienced in supporting young people, including some with lived experience of care.

Residence

Outreach

Overview & Location

Our Outreach properties provide the support you need and that next important step to independence, for care leavers aged 16-24. You’ll usually move to an Outreach property from our self-contained flats at Berrington Street, when it’s the right time for you. But some young people move straight from the Heart of Oak, or straight into an Outreach property as their first accommodation with Futures – it all depends on your level of independence skills and how much support you need.

We have Outreach properties in Hereford and Leominster, of different sizes and types of accommodation, including flats, and houses.

Accommodation Layout

All our Outreach properties are fully self-contained, with your own kitchen and bathroom, and your own front door access, although you may have shared external access to the street. Staff are based at Berrington Street and on site during office hours, Monday to Friday, to provide support.

You can use the communal areas and ,meeting rooms at the Heart of Oak or Berrington Street too. You will have your own keys, and only you will have access to your accommodation, or staff, in an emergency.

Safety, Security & CCTV

If you use the communal areas at the Heart of Oak or Berrington Street, there are CCTV cameras there too. Any staff member can show you where they are, if you would like to know.

The CCTV system records images and audio and is there for your safety and the safety of other young people. If you’d like to know more about the CCTV system, how long data is stored for, and when we might need to use it, you can ask to see our CCTV policy and a support worker can talk you through it.

Support, Staffing & Emergency Help

If you have moved from Berrington Street, your support will continue in a similar way, and usually you’ll keep the same keyworker you had before.

If you’ve moved from the Heart of Oak or this is your first time with Futures, we know that living independently can be a big change, and we’re here to support you all the way.Your support will generally be during the day, Monday to Friday.

Your support worker will continue working with you to review how ready you are to move on living completely independently. This doesn’t mean you can’t get help if you need it urgently. If you need urgent support outside of office hours you can contact the 24/7 ‘out of hours’ on-call service by phone or text.
